The Transportation Security Administration will launch a new identity-verification service called TSA ConfirmID on Feb. 1.
In May 2025, the state and the whole U.S. switched to requiring a Real ID for air travel. The new federal ConfirmID will be a way for flyers without a Real ID to be verified by TSA. People will be able to purchase a ConfirmID starting on Feb. 1. A ConfirmID is valid for 10 days.

However, for those who do not yet possess a REAL ID, the best way to avoid the verification process and fee will be to obtain one before your next flight, said Paul Tine, commissioner for the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.
A new TSA process is intended to improve security and streamline identity verification for air travelers without an acceptable form of ID.
